GRCA

Junior High & High School

Welcome to our Junior High & High School. Our focus is the student who is a unique individual who is created in the image of God for a specific purpose in God’s plan. GRCA’s junior high program consists of 7th & 8th grades and our high school program consists of 9th-12th grades.

Gunnery Road Christian Academy is a college preparatory school. We strive to direct each student in the process of human development towards God’s objective for man: godliness of character and action to the end “that the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works” (II Tim. 3:17). Our first and foremost goal is that every student obtains a personal relationship with God which is found only in the saving work of Jesus Christ. Our second goal is for students to build necessary skills that are important for life. These skills include time management, organization, analysis, and reasoning, studying, listening and participation, note-taking, meeting due dates, writing and revising, presentation and giving positive and constructive feedback, and test-taking.

Students learn of God so that they may imitate Him. They are to become “followers of God” (Eph. 5:1). GRCA has a continual emphasis upon the goal of service and our curriculum provides for instruction in skills and disciplines that equip students for service. Academic subjects—whether in the fine arts or in the natural sciences—are studied not as ends in themselves but as means of improving the student as a servant of God. The teachers are Christ-followers who daily strive to implement a biblical worldview with rigorous academic lessons. GRCA uses the BJU Press curriculum.

The teachers enrich the curriculum through lecturing and other forms of direct teacher-to-student communication, as well as through assignments, research, and special projects,  where the student comes into contact with factual content. The teacher constantly tries to develop his comprehension by giving him new avenues of approach to the information. Teachers are encouraged to use different teaching methods that are both teacher-centered (direct instruction, flipped classrooms, and kinesthetic learning) and student-centered (differentiated instruction, inquiry-based learning, expeditionary learning, personalized learning, and game-based learning) in order to enhance the education and learning process of each student. Students are tested on their progress throughout the school year.

Gunnery Road Christian Academy provides many different opportunities for our student body within the curriculum. Students participate in field trips & special speakers. We have chapel every Friday and students have opportunities throughout the year to serve in music and plays. Students participate in extracurricular activities including sports. GRCA students are being equipped for life, learning, and leadership.
